James Kolker

James Kolker joined Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates in 1986. His experience encompasses planning and design for a great variety of academic projects, with scales ranging from individual buildings to complexes, precincts, and entire regions. He has developed particular expertise planning and designing educational and medical research facilities. He is leading master planning and design projects for Lehigh Valley Hospital's clinical, medical office, and parking facilities and recently oversaw construction administration for the California NanoSystems Institute at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Mr. Kolker was recently Principal-in-Charge for Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg's master planning and new hospital in Bethlehem, project manager for Berry/Baker Library and Carson Hall and the Rauner Special Collections Library at Dartmouth College, project manager for master planning of a new campus precinct at the University of Kentucky, and principal-in-charge for the design of UK's new Biomedical / Biological Sciences Research Laboratory.

Mr. Kolker was previously Project Manager for the Trabant University Center at the University of Delaware and project architect for facilities programming for the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian. He led master planning for the University of Michigan's Health System, consulted to the South African Department of Trade and Industry on planning for their new consolidated headquarters in Pretoria, and consulted for a regional plan in the Kingdom of Morocco. He was also a member of the team that designed the Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery in London, for which he coordinated and managed the computer drawings.

In 1991 Mr. Kolker worked at Arkkitehtitoimisto Pekka Salminen in Helsinki, Finland, where he was Project Designer for a new parking facility at Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport.
