Clerestory windows
admit shafts of ambient light during the day . The
light is modulated by lacelike space frames with attached leaves conveying
the sense of forest clearing.
Looking south the surfaces of the "leaves" are green; looking north they
are yellow --
to suggest summer and autumn alternately.
The design
of Nikko Kirifuri acknowledges the cultural and historical dimensions,
local and universal, that reinforces Nikko as a functioning community
and as a renowned religious and architectural place.
